LTKD Update 3rd January 2021

Dear Students, Parents/Carers

Happy New Year to you all. I hope everyone is keeping safe and well.

Obviously with the new tier4 restrictions being in effect, I won’t be able to restart classes as planned in January. In terms of physical attendance classes, I need to wait until we drop into tier 3 or lower.

I had a call with a couple of other instructions recently (Mr Whitehead from Authentic Sutton Bonington & Mr Herd from Hanul son TKD) and we discussed online classes. They are both trialing online lessons via zoom. Please let me know if there is interest in zoom classes and depending on level of interest we can either have a cross club zoom class or I can set some up for LTKD.

Regards

LTKD Update 29th November 2020

Hello to all Students & Parents/Carers,

I hope everyone is well. I’d like to provide an update on a couple of things.

COVID-19

As we come out of national lockdown and into tier system, Derby is in tier 3. UK Government guidance says although leisure and sports facilities can remain open, group exercise classes (including fitness and dance) should not go ahead. It doesn’t mention martial arts specifically, but I think the intent it clear, so it doesn’t look like I’m going to be able to re-open in December. I will keep monitoring the situation.

Authentic Online Patterns Competition

Just before the latest national lockdown you may recall we did a virtual patterns competition. Thank you to everyone who participated. The results are on the Authentic web site and congratulations to Chloe, Bobby, Joyce, Samuel, Daniel and Jenny.

Normally I’d present the certificates and medals in class, but as that won’t be until the new year at the earliest I’ll post them out instead. You should get them in a few days.

If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to get in touch. In the meantime, stay safe, keep well, and I hope we can resume training soon.

Regards

Jamie

Authentic TKD Virtual Patterns Competition

Obviously due to the COVID-19 situation this year, TKD competitions haven’t been taking place. Therefore Authentic TKD are having a ‘virtual’ patterns competition.

For further information please click here.

There is no fee, so I’d like every coloured belt student to have a go.

As you will see from the details, the entry will be filmed in class, and then made available (privately) to the other Authentic TKD instructors to view and mark.

I’m planning to do the filming on 19th October and/or 2nd November. (Club isn’t running over half term).

Students are given two attempts, and then can I pick the best attempt for submission.

For parents/carers – if your child doesn’t want to take part, or you don’t want them filmed, please let me know before Monday 2nd November (at the latest).

Thank you,
Jamie

LTKD re-opening September 2020 (part 2)

Hello Students, Parents/Carers

Further update on LTKD re-opening.

Due to the reduced capacity in the hall necessary to maintain distancing, the club needs to have a predictable student numbers at a certain level to make it viable. In addition I’ll be taking payments online to avoid cash handling.

Thus to provide the degree of predictability I’m proposing to ask for payments on a monthly basis, payable in advance before the first Monday of the month. For the remainder of 2020, the dates / costs would work out as follows:

September £15 per student (14, 21, 28)

October £15 per student (5, 12, 19 – not 26th as it’s Half Term)

November £25 per student (2, 9, 16, 23, 30)

December £15 per student (7, 14, 21)

Payments would be made online directly to the club bank account (details will be provided separately).

Class will still operate 7pm to 8:30pm.

For those with younger children. There will be no regular / scheduled toilet break in class, however in event of urgent need the disabled toilet will be available on request.

Although I’ll be unable to teach some aspects of the syllabus for the time being (e.g. sparring) the upside is the class will be a smaller group, so students will benefit from that and we can spend the time focusing on the rest of the syllabus and improving on the technical aspects of TKD.

Based on feedback, if sufficient students commit based on the new arrangements then we will look to re-open on Monday 14th September.

Regards

LTKD re-opening September 2020

Hello,

I am considering re-opening the club in September. At this stage I’m looking to get a feel for the number of students that would be interested in training again.

Training will be a little different for the foreseeable. Whilst I’ve yet to work out all the details, the key points so far are as follows.

  1. To maintain distancing I’ll only be able to train 12 students in a class.
  2. I’ll need to implement some kind of booking system to secure a slot in the class.
  3. To avoid using cash payment will need to be made online when the slot is reserved (probably via Paypal or bank transfer). Once a slot is reserved, it will likely be non refundable in event of no show.
  4. Class cost will be £5 per student.
  5. Class timing will still be 7pm to 8:30pm. Training time will be targeted to be 80 minutes, which allows time for students to come in and leave in a controlled manner.
  6. There will be no toilet breaks. This is due to distancing restrictions within the toilets, and the cleaning requirements it introduces.
  7. Training will focus on the parts of the syllabus that don’t require close contact. For example, technical work, patterns, exercising. So initially we don’t be able to spar for example.

I’m looking at an online system that will help management membership, bookings, payments. Watch this space.

I recognise this is a different way of operating to what we are used to. At this stage I’m looking to get approximate numbers. If you are interested in you / your child starting training in September can you please let me know. If there is sufficient interest then I’ll progress and advise further.

Thank you

COVID-19 (9th July 2020)

Hello,

I hope all students and parents/carers are well.

I’m writing this update because recently various lockdown restrictions have started to lift, and today it was announced that some activities such as leisure centres will be opening shortly. So I thought I’d give an update on LTKD.

I have been closely watching what schools and leisure centres are permitted to do. In addition though, there is specific guidance relating to the use of the community centre. As it stands the centre is unable to support mixed activities, due to the cleaning requirements in-between different groups. So priority is currently given to the school club (for child care reasons). Over the summer there is an activity group that has a two week block booking, so they can have exclusive access during that time.

For obvious reasons clubs / activities that only want one or two nights are not going to be able to use the hall until September at the earliest. That is, until the rules on mixed activities are relaxed.

I’ll keep monitoring the situation, and update when I can. As it stands though, I’m looking at mid September as a potential LTKD re-opening opportunity.

Please keep well in the meantime, and if you have any specific queries please get in touch

Regards, Jamie

COVID-19 update – classes suspended

To all students and parents/carers.

Due to recent advice from the UK Government around social distancing and non essential journeys it is with regret that I have had to make the difficult decision to suspend training at the club until further notice.

The covid-19 is a clearly a unique and rapidly changing situation, so at this stage I can’t say for how long classes will remain suspended. I will continue to monitor UK Government advice and react accordingly.

Other clubs within Authentic England have also stopped training. The grading planned for 29th March has been postponed.

I hope you all remain well over the coming weeks, or however long this lasts.

Please get in touch if you have any queries.
